This investigation demonstrates better astigmatic testing outcomes with smaller letter targets for lens corrections.
Seventy‐five eyes were tested for astigmatic lenses by customary cross‐cylinder methods using 20/40 letters for fixation and using the smallest letters that the patient could identify. The latter targets yield better results, particularly for location of the axis of the correcting cylindrical lens: the determination of the power of the correcting cylindrical less is less affected by target size.
