Measures optical properties and aberrations in the Progressor lens, indicating its design implications.
The optical characteristics of the recently marketed Progressor progressive addition lens were measured using a modified Nikon projection vertexometer. Each lens blank was determined to have uniform power throughout its upper half, non‐linearly gradually increasing power in the intermediate region, and slightly decreasing power in the lower portion. In addition to the desired optical properties there is a distinctive pattern of aberrations, the amount of which varies in relation to the power of the addition of the prescription.
