It is not easy to encourage the participation of residents who have no interest in or contact with town building. However, as community-driven town building becomes more important in the future, it is crucial that more residents take an interest in town building. In this study, we examine the effects and factors of the university design exercise and its production, using the “Kannai Area Concept Book” as a reference case, on fostering local residents’ interest in town building.
