A survey describes Chaetomium species in Kings County, suggesting variability among species.
The primary purpose of the present study was to describe the Chaetomium species found in Kings County, Nova Scotia. Thirteen species were isolated, or found growing on a variety of substrates. Cultures of each species were grown on potato-malt agar from which descriptions, drawings and photographs were obtained. A short comparative account of the malt grown colony and original substrate colony of each species was included to note the variability of each species under different environmental conditions. Several species, notably C. aterrimum, C. cochloides and C. globosun, were observed to be highly variable. Apical germ pore types of the species examined are in accordance with those reported by Millner et al. (1977).
