Thesis identifies polypore fungi in Nova Scotia, highlighting new species and microscopic traits.
This thesis presents detailed descriptions of the Polypore genera Albatrellus Pouzar, Poria S. F. Gray, and Tyromyces Karsten occurring in Nova Scotia, and keys to the genera and species. Identification of Poria and Tyromyces species demand accurate observation of microscopic characters whereas Albatrellus species usually may be determined macroscopically. Illustration of both macroscopic and microscopic details are given for all taxa I collected; however, species examined from exsiccata are illustrated by camera lucida drawings only. Thirty-two species are described, one of which (Poria dendro-incrustata) is described as new. Four taxa are reported for the first time from Nova Scotia.
