This investigation reveals algae productivity changes in rocky coast zones, suggesting environmental impact assessment is vital.
The algae zonation of a typical rocky shore along the Bay of Fundy coastline near Baxter's Harbour was investigated. Data from collections made during October 1976 and January 1977 from adjacent grid positions along the same transect were compared. Biomass values are presented based on carbon weight and these indicate the algal productivity at my study site. In the October collection the average carbon weight per sample intthe littoral zone was 196.571 grams per quarter meter squared, and the sublittoral collections had an average weight per sample of 67.317 grams per quarter meter squared. In the January collection the average carbon weight per sample in the littoral zone decreased to 86.469 grams per quarter meter squared, the sublittoral collections had an average weight of 92.548 grams per quarter meter squared.
