Information literacy skills and utilisation of electronic information materials by postgraduate students in faith-based universities in Anambra State

The study examined information literacy skills and utilisation of electronic information resources by postgraduate students in faith-based universities in Anambra State. Five research questions were addressed in this study and five hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study was anchored on the Big6 Information Literacy Skill Model. Correlational survey design was adopted. The population of the study consisted of 252 postgraduate students in three faith-based universities in Anambra State, namely Paul University, Awka, Madonna University, Okija and Tansian University, Umunya. The study made use of census sampling and data were collected using validated questionnaires. Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used to answer research questions and test null hypotheses, p-value was used to determine the significance of the correlation. The findings revealed a high positive significant relationship between information literacy skills and utilisation of electronic information materials among the postgraduate students in faith-based universities in Anambra State. The study recommended that information literacy skill instructions should be integrated into postgraduate education, assignments and assessments, awareness campaigns should be organised from time to time on the importance of utilizing electronic information resources; management should allocate more resources towards providing internet connectivity for easy access and subscription of online databases; and postgraduate students should be taught through course works on the strategies to be used for evaluating electronic information resources.
