Observational study measures oxygen uptake in the cornea after contact lens wear, suggesting respiratory impacts.
Apparent epithelial oxygen uptake rates were measured in seven subjects before and after contact lens wear. A statistically significant pattern of raised respiration rates immediately following contact lens wear was observed in the contact lens‐wearing eye and in the contralateral, noncontact lens‐wearing eye, which acted as a control.
