Experiments evaluate the impact of reinforcement schedules on learned responses in turtles, indicating partial reinforcement enhances persistence.
Three groups of turtles(geoclemys reevesii)were trained in a black-white discrimination task in a Y-maze;one with 50% single alternating(SA),the second with 50% random(Rd),and the third with continuous reinforcement(CR)schedules followed by extinction of the learned response. They received 8 trials per day with massed-trial condition during 10-day acquisition and 5-day extinction.Analyses on the number of correct response indicated no group difference between three groups during acquisition but a significant group difference during extinction;the Rd and SA groups permormed better than the CR group, with no difference between two partial groups. The results, which demonstrated a typical partial reinforcement extinction effect(PREE),are compared to those of analogous experiments with turtles and rats, and are discussed in terms of the length of intertrial interval as a possible determinant of PREE and the response measurement toward comprehensive interpretation of a choice behavior.|3群のクサガメがY型迷路を用いた白黒弁別課題で訓練を受けた。
