Why the study?
Does Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion (LAAO) induce left atrial remodeling and impact Brain Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) levels?
Does Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion (LAAO) induce left atrial remodeling and impact Brain Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) levels?
Left atrial appendage occlusion induces structural left atrial remodeling on CT imaging but does not significantly alter BNP levels during follow-up.
CT-detected remodeling post-LAAO should not guide therapy yet; leaves open the clinical relevance of structural changes without BNP shifts.
Our study showed that despite the fact that the LAAO technique can induce left atrial remodeling measured by a CT scan, it does not seem to impact BNP levels on the follow-up. The results need to be transposed to clinical outcomes of this expanding population in future studies.
