Key result
Only ~41% of ASCVD patients achieve guideline-recommended LDL-C targets on current lipid-lowering therapy.
Why the study?
What proportion of secondary cardiovascular prevention patients achieve guideline-directed LDL cholesterol targets, and how often is therapeutic inertia present?
Cross-Sectional (n=1,909)

What proportion of secondary cardiovascular prevention patients achieve guideline-directed LDL cholesterol targets, and how often is therapeutic inertia present?
No takes yet. Share an insight, caveat, or question.
A significant proportion of high-risk secondary prevention patients do not achieve guideline-directed LDL targets, highlighting therapeutic inertia and the need for more intensive lipid-lowering regimens.
Faggiano et al. (2025) conducted a cross-sectional in Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) (n=1,909). Lipid-lowering therapies was evaluated on Achievement of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol targets as per the 2019 ESC/EAS Dyslipidemia Guidelines. Only 41.3% of patients with prior ASCVD achieved recommended LDL-cholesterol targets, and among those not at target, proposed therapy modifications were predicted to be effective in only 42.3%.
