This manuscript uncovers the link between comet fragmentation and spacecraft re-entry dynamics, suggesting a unified theory with implications for astrophysics.
This is the complete preprint of the manuscript "The Alfvén Engine in the Solar System: A Unified Magnetohydrodynamic Framework for Interstellar Comet 3I/ATLAS, Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9, and Spacecraft Re-entry Plasma Interactions" by Yousuf Ahsen Al-Mahaqari. This version is submitted for peer review to a scientific journal. The preprint is archived here to establish scientific priority and for public access. ABSTRACT: Three seemingly unrelated phenomena — the fragmentation of comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 (1994), the anomalous trajectory of interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS (2026), and the accelerated melting of Space Shuttle Columbia (2003) — are unified under Alfvén's critical ionization velocity (CIV) mechanism, termed the "Alfvén Engine." For 3I/ATLAS, we report the discovery of an internal magnetic field of B = 8.23 ± 0.17 Tesla, derived from magnetic redshift z_mag = 0.000312 (73.2% of total redshift, 5.2σ, R²=0.997). The same mechanism explains SL-9's fragmentation and Columbia's accelerated aluminum melting. Ten predictions from this model have been confirmed by independent observations. A falsifiable prediction — position angle PA = 277.3° ± 0.5° on April 15, 2026 — provides a direct test.
