Excavation reveals Late Iron Age/Romano-British agricultural practices in North Yorkshire, suggesting historical land use patterns.
The Strip and Record Area was located in Fields 1 & 3, and were targeted in response to the impact of the development and the results of the Geophysical Survey and the Trial Trenching. The excavation area measured approximately 3721 m2. The Watching Brief Area In Phase 1 measured approximately 673m2. The archaeological excavations at Firthland Road have shown that Late Iron Age/Romano-British enclosure and agricultural activity along the 30m contour mirror the findings at Malton Road in Pickering. This pattern of land use has been recognised along the Tabular Hills, on the southern edge of the Vale of Pickering and the Yorkshire Wolds.
