As part of a modern comprehensive in-flight icing simulation code (FENSAP-ICE), a new thermodynamic model for ice accretion is developed (the Shallow-Water Icing Model or SWIM). SWIM is based on a system of partial differential equations (PDEs) and thus is thought to be superior to a control volume (no PDE) approach used in current icing codes. Flexibility in the physical modeling and flexibility in numerical algorithm selection make SWIM an attractive icing model. The complete model, numerical algorithms used, and results are presented
