Examines AI technologies enhancing service delivery and user experiences in academic libraries' serials management, highlighting implications.
This paper examines the application of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies specifically within the serials section of academic libraries. As serials collections grow in complexity with the proliferation of electronic journals, open access publications, and dynamic pricing models, AI offers powerful solutions for enhancing service delivery, automating workflows, and improving user experiences. This study explores how intelligent systems are revolutionizing serials discovery, subscription management, metadata generation, and personalized research support. While these technologies present significant opportunities for efficiency gains and enhanced user satisfaction, their implementation faces challenges including data quality issues, algorithmic bias, privacy concerns, financial constraints, and staff skill gaps. Through analysis of current applications and emerging trends, this paper demonstrates that strategic AI adoption how can they fundamentally transform serials services while requiring careful attention to ethical considerations and organizational readiness.
