Key Points

  • The aim is to evaluate the current status, techniques, and clinical implications of intraoral scanners in fixed prosthodontics.
  • Comprehensive analysis of the measurement principles of intraoral scanners.
  • Comparison of digital impressions with traditional methods.
  • Discussion on factors affecting accuracy and clinical decision-making based on case characteristics.
  • Intraoral scanners demonstrate equivalent or superior precision for single crowns and small bridges compared to traditional methods.
  • Improved patient comfort and reduced chair time are significant advantages of digital workflows.
  • Cautions are necessary for widespread defects and deep subgingival cases, emphasizing the need for proper clinical techniques.
