Tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy links to similar major events as idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy but higher HF readmissions.
Why the study?
Data on the natural course and prognosis of tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy and its comparison with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy are scarce.
Does tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy compared to idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy affect long-term outcomes and heart failure readmissions in hospitalized patients?

Does tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy compared to idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy affect long-term outcomes and heart failure readmissions in hospitalized patients?
Tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy has similar long-term hard clinical outcomes to idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy but is associated with a higher rate of heart failure readmissions driven by arrhythmia recurrences.
BACKGROUND: data on the natural course and prognosis of tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy (TICMP) and comparison with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathies (IDCM) are scarce. OBJECTIVE: To compare the clinical presentation, comorbidities, and long-term outcomes of TICMP patients with IDCM patients. METHODS: a retrospective cohort study of patients hospitalized with new-onset TICMP or IDCM. The primary endpoint was a composite of death, myocardial infarction, thromboembolic events, assist device, heart transplantation, and ventricular tachycardia or fibrillation (VT/VF). The secondary endpoint was recurrent hospitalization due to heart failure (HF) exacerbation. RESULTS: = 0.009). CONCLUSIONS: patients with TICMP have similar long-term outcomes as those with IDCM. However, it portends a higher rate of HF readmissions, mostly due to arrhythmia recurrences.

Katz et al. (2023) conducted a cohort in Tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy and idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy. Tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy vs. Idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy was evaluated on Composite of death, myocardial infarction, thromboembolic events, assist device, heart transplantation, and ventricular tachycardia or fibrillation (VT/VF). Tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy was associated with similar long-term composite outcomes as idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy, but a higher rate of heart failure readmissions (P=0.009).
