Objective. To analyze the regulatory framework for dog importation to the United States establishedby the CDC 2024 Interim Final Rule, its country-of-origin classification criteria, and differential requirementsbased on canine rabies risk. Results. Dogs from high-risk countries — a category that includes Peru —must comply with: ISO microchip, US vaccination or complete primary series with RFFIT/FAVN ≥0.5 IU/mL,and in some cases entry exclusively through CDC-approved facilities (ACF). Conclusion. The 2024 CDCsystem represents the most complex canine importation framework implemented by the US, with directconsequences for export processes from Latin America.
