Technological advances and current changes in the family and society have the potential to create individuals capable of widespread destruction, without the desire or capacity to control these impulses. The authors examine the history of current trends and place the children they have observed in the context of β society which looks to technology to save us from ourselves rather than developing human resources in order to have technology serve positive human needs. Educators, families, social policy makers, and technologists are presented with a challenge to alter these trends.
