Why the study?
Does metoprolol or ivabradine improve haemodynamic function, ventricular remodeling, and Ca2+ handling in a post-myocardial infarction rat model?
Population
Post-myocardial infarction (MI) heart failure rat model (and sham surgery)
Comparison
Metoprolol or ivabradine started 24 h after… vs No treatment

Metoprolol's extra benefits in rat post-MI model support mechanisms beyond rate control; hypothesis-generating, should not yet alter practice.
Does metoprolol or ivabradine improve haemodynamic function, ventricular remodeling, and Ca2+ handling in a post-myocardial infarction rat model?
In a post-MI rat model, metoprolol provided additional benefits on LV morphology and cellular Ca2+ handling compared to pure heart rate reduction with ivabradine, indicating beta-blocker benefits extend beyond heart rate reduction.
