Estrogen replacement prevents pressure-induced LVH in rats by inhibiting mast cell chymase.
Why the study?
Does estrogen replacement prevent pressure overload-induced adverse cardiac remodeling by inhibiting mast cell chymase release in ovariectomized rats?

Should not change clinical practice; hypothesis-generating for estrogen-chymase pathways in pressure-overload remodeling.
Does estrogen replacement prevent pressure overload-induced adverse cardiac remodeling by inhibiting mast cell chymase release in ovariectomized rats?
Li et al. (2014) studied Pressure overload-induced adverse cardiac remodeling. 17β-estradiol, chymostatin, or nedocromil vs. Sham surgery or untreated OVX rats with aortic constriction was evaluated on Left ventricular function, cardiomyocyte size, collagen volume fraction, MC density and degranulation, and myocardial and plasma chymase levels. Estrogen replacement prevented pressure overload-induced ventricular hypertrophy and increased collagen volume fraction in ovariectomized rats by inhibiting mast cell chymase release.
