Key result
Simultaneous communicating S-ICD and leadless pacemaker implantation demonstrates feasible workflow in two cases.
Why the study?
In patients requiring both pacing and ICD therapy, it is important to ensure paced morphology from a leadless pacemaker is sensed appropriately by a subcutaneous ICD.
Case Report (n=2)
This case series demonstrates a workflow for ensuring appropriate sensing during the simultaneous implantation of a subcutaneous ICD and a leadless pacemaker.
May support combined use in select patients; leaves open need for prospective validation of safety and outcomes.
A communicating subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) and leadless pacemaker system is being developed for patients who require both pacing and ICD therapy. It is important to ensure that the paced morphology from the leadless pacemaker will be sensed appropriately by the subcutaneous ICD. We present 2 cases illustrating our approach and workflow. Nieves et al. (2022) conducted a case report in Patients requiring both pacing and ICD therapy (n=2). Simultaneous leadless pacemaker and subcutaneous ICD implantation with intraoperative screening was evaluated. Simultaneous implantation of a communicating subcutaneous ICD and leadless pacemaker system was described in 2 cases to illustrate the approach and workflow.
