Three questions regarding attribution theory's application to marketing are discussed: 1) Are attributions evoked by consumers? 2) What model best explains their behavior? 3) Can they increase the perceived source credibility? An experiment exploring these issues suggests that consumers do evoke attributions when processing promotional messages, and they appear to mediate perceived credibility.
Smith et al. (Fri,) studied this question.
