Key result
Impaired longitudinal strain and greater LGE mass linked to higher SVA risk in acute myocarditis.
Why the study?
Myocarditis has variable clinical presentation, evolution, and prognosis, prompting evaluation of speckle tracking echocardiography and CMR for short-term prediction of supraventricular arrhythmias.
Do longitudinal systolic strain and delayed enhancement on cardiac magnetic resonance predict supraventricular arrhythmias in patients with acute myocarditis and preserved LVEF?
Observational (n=70)
Do longitudinal systolic strain and delayed enhancement on cardiac magnetic resonance predict supraventricular arrhythmias in patients with acute myocarditis and preserved LVEF?
Effect estimate: ROC-AUC 0.75
Longitudinal systolic strain and delayed enhancement mass on CMR are useful predictors of supraventricular arrhythmias in patients with acute myocarditis and preserved LVEF.
May support arrhythmia risk stratification in acute myocarditis with preserved LVEF; hypothesis-generating, requiring prospective validation.

Novo et al. (2022) conducted an observational in Acute myocarditis with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction (n=70). Longitudinal systolic strain and delayed enhancement cardiac magnetic resonance was evaluated on Supraventricular arrhythmias (SVA) (ROC-AUC 0.75). Longitudinal systolic strain > -16.1% (ROC-AUC 0.75) and delayed enhancement mass > 18.9 g (ROC-AUC 0.76) were associated with a higher risk of supraventricular arrhythmias in acute myocarditis.
