Population
20 patients (15 male, 5 female) aged 42-72 years (mean 61 years) with angiographically proven coronary artery disease, evidence of reversible myocardial ischaemia on thallium scintigraphy, and marked exercise limitation (maximal oxygen consumption 8.7-22.4 ml.min-1.kg-1) due to breathlessness or fatigue, with mean ejection fraction 46.5% (range 30-67%). Compared with 10 healthy controls (age 38-66, mean 58 years; 8 male, 2 female).

Assessment of exercise capacity during erect cycle ergometry and radionuclide indices of left ventricular systolic function and diastolic filling during semi-erect cycle ergometry.
