Introduction. Currently, cancers of the upper aerodigestive tract remain a global public health problem. In Madagascar, the cancer registry data is not avalaible making a lack of knowledge on these tumors. This work aimed to describe the epidemiology and clinical profiles of malig- nant tumors of the upper aerodigestive tract in oncology unit of University hospital Joseph Ravoahangy Andrianavalona (HUJRA). Patients and methods. This is a retrospective descriptive study from 1st January 2008 to 31st December 2012 of patients who had head and neck cancer with histological proof. Results. For the 161 cases we collected, mean of age was 53.36 years and the sex ratio at 1.48. Time to consultation was greater than or equal to 12 months in 38.45%. Smoking and alcohol use accounted for 63%. Cancer of the oral cavity held the first rank (42%), followed by the oropharynx (17%). Histologically, squamous cell carcinoma predominated 81.60%. Nearly 64% of patients were diagnosed at stages III and IV. Conclusion. This study differs from the literature by the predominance of the tumor endobuccal. It doesn't reflect the reality of the Malagasy people, so the realization of a national cancer registry would characterize cancers of the upper aerodigestive tract in Madagascar.
