Key result
The LIPG (584 C/T) mutation was present in 26.7% of CAD patients versus 41.8% of controls (p=0.020), suggesting the T allele might be protective against coronary artery disease.
Why the study?
Is the endothelial lipase gene (LIPG) 584 C/T polymorphism associated with coronary artery disease in a Turkish population?
Case-Control (n=147)
Is the endothelial lipase gene (LIPG) 584 C/T polymorphism associated with coronary artery disease in a Turkish population?
Absolute Event Rate: 26.7% vs 41.8%
p-value: p=0.020
The LIPG 584 C/T polymorphism T allele may be protective against coronary artery disease in the Turkish population, likely by altering HDL-C metabolism.
The observed association should not yet change practice; leaves open a potential protective effect of the LIPG 584T allele pending larger studies.
BACKGROUND/AIM: The endothelial lipase gene (LIPG) has a major role in regulating high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), therefore this study investigated whether LIPG is associated with coronary artery disease (CAD) in a Turkish population. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The LIPG (584 C/T) mutation was analyzed in 74 CAD patients and 73 controls. RESULTS: =0.456, p=0.020; 26.7% and 41.8% in patient and control groups, respectively) for 584 C/T. Even though the TT genotype was not significantly different, it had p=0.054 which supported our results. CONCLUSION: The endothelial lipase gene (584 C/T) T allele might be protective in association with coronary artery disease. Therefore, LIPG gene is related to risk for CAD in the Turkish population probably through altering HDL-C metabolism.

SOLİM et al. (2018) conducted a case-control in Coronary artery disease (n=147). LIPG (584 C/T) mutation vs. Controls was evaluated on LIPG (584 C/T) mutation frequency (p=0.020). The LIPG (584 C/T) mutation was present in 26.7% of CAD patients versus 41.8% of controls (p=0.020), suggesting the T allele might be protective against coronary artery disease.
