67 patients with tetralogy of Fallot who survived at least one year postoperatively and had follow-up chest films available. Age range 1 month to 13 years, 29 females and 38 males.

Surgical treatment for tetralogy of Fallot (22 Blalock-Taussig procedures, 40 Potts procedures, 5 total corrections; 13 of the first two groups had total correction later)

This retrospective cohort study evaluates the radiologic changes in cardiac size, contour, and pulmonary vascularity following surgical palliation or correction of tetralogy of Fallot.

Limitations

  • Selection bias due to exclusion of operative deaths and failures with survival of less than one year
  • Exclusion of patients followed postoperatively at distant centers or by family physicians
