Lower LAAEV is linked to LA thrombus, found in ~9% of HCM patients with AF.
Its licence doesn't allow us to show a copy here.
Why the study?
Patients with HCM and AF have an increased risk of LA thrombus presence and persistence despite anticoagulation, impacting management during interventions such as cardioversion that carry elevated thromboembolism risk.
What are the risk factors for left atrial thrombus in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and atrial fibrillation?

What are the risk factors for left atrial thrombus in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and atrial fibrillation?
In patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and atrial fibrillation, lower left atrial appendage emptying velocity is associated with the presence of left atrial thrombus despite anticoagulation.

Julakanti et al. (2026) conducted a cohort in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and Atrial Fibrillation (n=693). Lower LAAEV was evaluated on Presence of LA thrombus. In patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and atrial fibrillation, lower LAAEV was associated with the presence of left atrial thrombus, which was identified in 8.5% of patients.
