Archaeological evaluation identified features and materials at Washingley Farm, indicating historical significance.
The archaeological evaluation was undertaken following the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists Standard and Guidance for archaeological field evaluation (2020a), and in accordance with the WA fieldwork manual (2020). The project also adhered to the Standards for Field Archaeology in the Eastern Region (Gurney 2003). The fieldwork programme was followed by an assessment of the data as set out in the Standard and Guidance for archaeological field evaluation (CIfA 2020a) and the Standard and Guidance for the collection, documentation, conservation and research of archaeological materials (CIfA 2020b). The trial trenching identified 27 features and the foundations of one structure, with all datable features relating to the late post-medieval farmhouse or later activity. Three residual sherds of medieval pottery and a small amount of residual 17th-18th century CBM were recovered.
