Grants awarded for innovative accounting education projects in universities, suggesting new teaching models.
The article presents information on five grants made by the Accounting Education Change Commission (AECC) in 1990. It describes each of these five recently funded projects--there are five projects and six funded universities because one project is a joint effort of two universities. The purpose of the grants is to encourage experimentation in accounting education. The results of successful projects will be widely disseminated as prototypes for other colleges and universities to emulate. Most of the AECC's $2.5 million allocation to the grant program has been awarded. No further grants to four-year colleges and universities are anticipated. Each project is described in the words of the project leaders, and each description is augmented by information about the project budget. The purpose of the School of Accountancy Curriculum Development Project is to make substantial revisions in the accounting portion of the curriculum to better achieve the goals of the School. The AECC Grant to the Department of Accounting at North Carolina A&T State University will be used to implement curriculum changes which are designed to interrelate students' learning experiences.
