Twelve weeks of HIIT improves aerobic capacity and resting heart rate in healthy middle-aged women.
Why the study?
Cardiovascular diseases are a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among women, particularly during middle age, and HIIT has emerged as a time-efficient strategy to improve cardiovascular fitness.
Does a twelve-week High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) program improve cardiovascular fitness parameters in healthy middle-aged women?
Does a twelve-week High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) program improve cardiovascular fitness parameters in healthy middle-aged women?
A 12-week HIIT program effectively improves physiological cardiovascular fitness markers in healthy middle-aged women, supporting its use as a preventive health strategy.
HIIT may boost fitness in middle-aged women; hypothesis-generating and requires larger trials before practice change.
Cardiovascular diseases remain one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality among women worldwide, particularly during middle age when physiological and lifestyle changes contribute to increased health risks. High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) has emerged as a time-efficient and effective exercise strategy for improving cardiovascular fitness and overall health. The present study evaluates the role of HIIT in enhancing cardiovascular fitness among middle-aged women through an experimental intervention. A twelve-week HIIT program was administered to healthy women aged 40–55 years. Cardiovascular fitness parameters including maximal oxygen uptake (VO₂max), resting heart rate, blood pressure, and exercise endurance were assessed before and after the intervention. The findings revealed significant improvements in cardiovascular fitness indicators, including increased aerobic capacity, reduced resting heart rate, improved exercise tolerance, and favorable changes in blood pressure. The study concludes that HIIT is an effective and practical exercise modality for improving cardiovascular health among middle-aged women and may serve as an important strategy for preventing cardiovascular diseases and promoting healthy aging.
