TTVI tends to improve mitral regurgitation despite increased forward cardiac flow.
Why the study?
Does transcatheter tricuspid valve intervention improve mitral regurgitation in patients with severe tricuspid regurgitation?
Does transcatheter tricuspid valve intervention improve mitral regurgitation in patients with severe tricuspid regurgitation?
Initial data indicates that transcatheter tricuspid valve interventions may lead to improvements in concomitant mitral regurgitation.
Transcatheter tricuspid valve intervention (TTVI) which encompasses tricuspid edge-to-edge repair (TTEER) and transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement (TTVR) is now a viable option to reduce symptoms and improve outcome for patients with severe tricuspid regurgitation. A clear relationship exists between the reduction in the severity of tricuspid regurgitation following TTVI and the impact on outcome. The impact of TTVI on the severity of mitral regurgitation however is less well understood. Initial data suggests that despite increased forward flow following treatment, mitral regurgitation tends to improve.

Gill et al. (2026) conducted a review in severe tricuspid regurgitation. Transcatheter tricuspid valve intervention (TTVI) was evaluated on severity of mitral regurgitation. Transcatheter tricuspid valve intervention tends to improve mitral regurgitation despite increased forward flow following treatment.
