This study describes the early experience and outcomes of establishing a TAVR program in a large public hospital system aimed at addressing disparities in access for underserved populations.
Severe aortic stenosis (AS) is associated with high morbidity and mortality. Despite the proven safety and efficacy of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), access to this therapy remains inequitable in the United States, with persistent disparities in utilization among historically underserved populations. We describe the outcomes and early experience of a newly established TAVR program at Bellevue Hospital, part of the largest public hospital system in the US.
