Study outlines validation of Centaur hs-cTnI assay for early AMI diagnosis but reports no results.
Why the study?
A novel hs-cTnI assay (Centaur) was recently developed, but its performance for early diagnosis of AMI in patients presenting with suspected AMI was unknown.
Does the novel hs-cTnI Centaur assay provide comparable diagnostic accuracy to established hs-cTn assays for early diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction in patients presenting to the emergency department?
Observational
Yes
Does the novel hs-cTnI Centaur assay provide comparable diagnostic accuracy to established hs-cTn assays for early diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction in patients presenting to the emergency department?
The novel Centaur hs-cTnI assay provides a validated option for early AMI diagnosis; extends assay choices while confirming performance parity with established hs-cTn tests.
Objective: High-sensitivity cardiac troponin (hs-cTn) assays are recommended for early diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). A novel hs-cTnI (Centaur) assay has been developed recently but its performance in patients with suspected AMI is unknown. Purpose: To validate a novel hs-cTnI assay (Centaur) and to directly compare its performance with established hs-cTn assays (hs-cTnT Elecsys, hs-cTnI Architect) for early diagnosis of AMI in one large multicentre cohort. Methods: We prospectively enrolled unselected patients presenting to the emergency department (ED) with symptoms suggestive of AMI. The final diagnosis was adjudicated by two independent cardiologists. Patients presenting with ST-elevation myocardial infarction were excluded. Hs-cTnI and T levels were measured at presentation. Receiver-operating characteristics (ROC) curves were constructed to assess the sensitivity and specificity throughout the concentrations of hs-cTn provided by the different assays to compare the ability of hs-cTn baseline concentrations to diagnose AMI. Subgroup analysis was performed in patients presenting very early after chest pain onset.

Boeddinghaus et al. (2017) conducted an observational in suspected acute myocardial infarction. Novel hs-cTnI assay (Centaur) vs. Established hs-cTn assays (hs-cTnT Elecsys, hs-cTnI Architect) was evaluated on Early diagnosis of AMI. A prospective multicenter study was designed to validate a novel hs-cTnI assay (Centaur) against established assays for early AMI diagnosis, but no results were reported in the abstract.
