Narrative review evaluates scalp micropigmentation's effects on hair loss, suggesting a beneficial cosmetic enhancement.
Hair loss is a common condition with significant psychosocial impact. While multiple treatment modalities exist, each has limitations.Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) has emerged as a minimally invasive cosmetic technique to improve the visual appearance of hair density. To review the principles, applications, advantages, and limitations of SMP in the management of hair loss.A narrative review of available literature on SMP, including its evolution, procedural aspects, clinical indications, and outcomes.SMP provides immediate cosmetic improvement by reducing scalp-hair contrast and creating an illusion of density. It is particularly useful in patients with diffuse thinning, limited donor areas, and post-surgical scars. However, outcomes are operator-dependent, and the procedure does not result in actual hair regrowth.SMP is a valuable adjunct in hair restoration but remains a camouflage technique.Further long-term studies are required to standardize protocols and assess durability.
