Why the study?
Ticagrelor increases adenosine bioavailability, which may trigger ischemic preconditioning and improve coronary microvascular dysfunction, but whether it confers these effects compared to clopidogrel remained to be determined.
Does ticagrelor improve ischemic preconditioning and microvascular function compared to clopidogrel in patients with stable multivessel CAD requiring staged PCI?

Does ticagrelor improve ischemic preconditioning and microvascular function compared to clopidogrel in patients with stable multivessel CAD requiring staged PCI?
This trial protocol aims to evaluate whether ticagrelor improves ischemic preconditioning and microvascular function compared to clopidogrel in patients with stable CAD undergoing PCI.
Ticagrelor may enhance preconditioning in stable CAD; leaves open clinical relevance pending larger trials.

D’Amario et al. (2020) conducted an RCT in Stable coronary artery disease (n=100). Ticagrelor vs. Clopidogrel (600 mg loading dose, 75 mg daily maintenance dose) was evaluated on Delta (difference) between ST segment elevations (in mm) assessed by intracoronary ECG during two-step sequential coronary balloon inflation in the culprit vessel.
