Identifies optimal hazardous materials storage location in Ankara, suggesting improved safety measures.
This study presents a strategic framework for selecting a hazardous-materials storage site in Ankara that prioritizes human health, environmental safety, and long-term sustainability. Given the high-risk nature of hazardous logistics and the inherent uncertainties in site selection, the research employs advanced multi-criteria decision-making models to ensure a robust evaluation. Thirteen critical criteria were established through expert consultations, with their importance levels determined using the Pythagorean Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. The analysis revealed that "Affected area and environment,""Affected population,""Material properties,"and "Proximity to emergency response"are the most significant factors influencing the decision. Subsequently, eight alternative locations were evaluated using the Pythagorean Fuzzy TOPSIS method to determine the optimal ranking. The findings identify the İvedik Organized Industrial Zone (A1) as the most suitable area for safe, sustainable storage of hazardous materials. By using Pythagorean fuzzy sets, the study effectively models the ambiguity and imprecision of expert judgments, resulting in more reliable outcomes. This holistic approach integrates engineering, logistics, and disaster management, providing a scientific and strategic roadmap for policymakers and logistics professionals to mitigate environmental risks and enhance urban safety.
