Template documents aid in course design and module development for retreat participants, enhancing educational frameworks.
These are the template documents used in the 4DEE Whole Course Retreat, January 2026. The documents were prepared by the author (with the exception of file 3, framework worksheet) to guide syllabus and module development for participants in the retreat. The course scaffolding documents (files 1 and 2) are based on the work of Erin Stapleton-Corcoran, Center for the Advancement of Teaching Excellence at the University of Illinois Chicago. 1) 4DEE Aligned Syllabus template: This is a 15-week complete course plan. It is not intended to be a student-facing document, but rather a scaffold upon which the user can build their course, then copy and paste into their institution's syllabus template. The document has clear 4DEE mapping for each week, as well as a space for assessments, learning activities, and integration to future weeks' lessons. 2) 4DEE Course Module Concept Development document: This is a framework for building out a learning module using 4DEE alongside a modified Bloom's Taxonomy. It features links to creating SMART objectives, using backwards course design for creating a learning activity (WHERETO framework), and Universal Design for Learning. There are imbedded links in the file which were accurate as of 7/15/2026. Note that this is not a template for submitting a 4DEE QUBES module, rather it is a framework for design of a weekly course plan (a/k/a module). The Course Module Concept Development worksheet is the functional unit of the Syllabus Template. They are used in tandem to build out the course week by week. The user is encouraged to use this template to use the principles of modern course design to plan each week's activities. The two documents go hand-in-hand. 3) 4DEE Framework Worksheet: developed by T Mourad and J St Juliana; this is an Excel file which allows the user to evaluate their course materials for each of the 4 Dimensions and rank them low/medium/high. 4) Basic 4DEE Text Concordance: Allows the user to map any given textbook to the 4DEE framework and provides a score for the basis of comparing books for 4DEE coverage.
