Photonic Universe Hypothesis (PUH) — Derivation (structure/kinematics). THE HAZARD, STATED FIRST. The naive identification — photon = Cartan = bulk, graviton = root = surface — is BACKWARDS: T167 places the photon IN the Cartan subalgebra (the U (1) generator Hₜheta), yet T288 needs the photon to be the SURFACE mode. A plain root-versus-Cartan identification would FALSIFY T288, not ground it. The derivation must thread this, and the threading is the content. THE FOLIATION. The E8 condensate carries the Lie-Poisson structure on e8*; its symplectic leaves are the coadjoint orbits and the eight Casimirs (degrees 2, 8, 12, 14, 18, 20, 24, 30) are constant on each leaf (T156) ; the Planck Shell is the leaf C₃0 = c*. At a regular point mu the tangent space to the leaf is spanned by the coadjoint directions X, mu. For a Cartan generator h: h, mu=0 (TRANSVERSE — these change the Casimir values, they are the Casimir-gradient directions). For a root vector: Eₐlpha, mu = -alpha (mu) Eₐlpha, nonzero for all 240 roots at generic mu (TANGENT). Verified on the explicit 240-root construction. Dimensions close exactly: regular orbit dim = 248 - rank = 240 = number of roots; codimension = 8 = rank = number of Casimirs. THE LEAF IS THE ROOT SECTOR; ITS NORMAL BUNDLE IS THE CARTAN SECTOR. THE BULK LEG (Theorem 292. 1). A gravitational wave, in PUH's own account (T193, Theorem 5), is a propagating oscillation of the lattice TENSION in the spin-2 direction — and tension is the Lagrange multiplier lambda conjugate to the Casimir constraint (T175). A tension wave is thus a disturbance of the Casimir-CONJUGATE variable; to propagate it must locally displace the Casimir VALUE, which lives in the TRANSVERSE directions. That is the bulk. A fully-formed core has all Casimirs saturated and zero residual degrees of freedom (T175): the Casimir values are pinned and cannot be displaced, so a gravitational wave has no transverse room to enter and is REFLECTED. The mirror leg is derived from WHERE the wave lives in e8; the impedance is infinite BECAUSE the transverse directions the wave needs are exactly the ones T175 pins. THE SURFACE LEG (Theorem 292. 2), meeting the hazard head-on. The photon is Hₜheta, a Cartan element — which Section 3 placed in the transverse (bulk) sector. But Hₜheta is NOT generic: it is the COROOT, Hₜheta = Eₜheta, E_-theta, the Cartan generator of the photon's own su (2) ₜheta ( (theta, theta) =2, ladder closes — verified), welded to the root pair E±ₓ₇₄ₓ₀ and inseparable from them. A photon disturbance is carried by that root pair, which is TANGENT to the leaf; the photon rides the SURFACE sector — not because its Cartan label lies there (it does not) but because the coroot welding ties its dynamics to the root pair that does. The Shell is a leaf, so a tangent-sector mode lives ON the shell surface: it couples, deposits energy, and advances the boundary by a Snap (T288 s4, T177). ABSORBED — the memory leg. THE DERIVED DICTIONARY: surface/bulk = tangent/transverse = coroot-welded-root-sector / generic-Casimir-value-sector. Gravitational waves are bulk because they oscillate the Casimir value; photons are surface because the coroot welds them to the leaf-tangent directions. THE PHOTON IS THE SINGLE, STRUCTURALLY-FORCED EXCEPTION — the one Cartan direction that belongs to the surface, and exactly the direction T167 already identified as the photon. The classification is derived with its one apparent counterexample turned into its cleanest illustration. CROSS-CHECK (T290). T290's Null-Channel Theorem showed the ±theta generators commute with all of E7 and couple to nothing outside photon, themselves, matter doublets — "the photon's own su (2) ₜheta ladder, not its neighbourhood. " That is the SAME welding, reached by computing E7 brackets rather than coadjoint geometry. Two independent derivations converge on one su (2) ₜheta — the strongest internal evidence the archive can give that the structure is real. T234 RESOLVED. T234 (conjecture) asked what the 240 leaf-tangent directions do under reflection. Answer: they are the SURFACE sector; they do not participate in reflection (that is the 8 transverse/bulk directions, pinned by a frozen core) ; they are where absorption and emission live. T234's open question dissolves — the tangent directions were never the mirror; they are the channel. Any Z3 phase structure T234 conjectured for them is thereby constrained to be a surface-sector (absorption/emission) phenomenon. HONEST TAGS. DERIVED-STRUCTURE (which modes can enter a zero-DOF region — a kinematic, mode-counting statement), NOT DERIVED-DYNAMICS (no dispersion relation is computed; the dynamical treatment is gated on the same EoS keystone as Rₛub and the Snap criterion). And because the coroot Hₜheta is itself a Cartan element, tangent/transverse and surface/bulk are related BY the su (2) ₜheta welding rather than being literally the same basis — stated plainly. What this note removes is the separate surface/bulk POSTULATE; what it still leans on is T167's filed assignment of the photon to the theta-direction. NOT CLAIMED: any new postulate (input is the standard Casimir foliation plus T193's and T167's filed identifications) ; that ordinary matter cannot source gravitational waves (the Genesis/Reflection effective-source framing is retained) ; that the dynamics of absorption are solved (only its kinematic possibility).
