AbstractBased on a case study of orangutan ecotourism in Indonesian Borneo, this paper examines the role of photography in the ecotourist experience. Particular attention is paid to the tendency of photography to commodify nature and the implications for both tourists and nature of such commodification. It is recommended that more consideration be given to educational aspects of ecotourism when formulating tourist management plans.
