Oxidation of 1 ( + )-glutamic acid without formation of ammonia. THE starting-point of this investigation was the observation that glutamic acid behaves differently from all the other ax-amino-acids in guinea-pig and rabbit kidneys, in that, although it increases the oxygen uptake even more than any other amino-acid of the i-series, in most cases it actually diminishes ammonia formation.
