Electrochemical oxidation of N ₂ to HNO ₃ (N ₂ OR) is explored in conjunction with parasitic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) on a poor and a good OER catalyst, TiO ₂ and IrO ₂ . We develop scaling relations to correlate OER and N ₂ OR activities on oxides.
