Why the study?
In emergency scenarios such as impaired renal function, haemorrhage, and ischemic stroke, knowing direct oral anticoagulant drug concentrations is critical, but traditional laboratory tests are insensitive to low concentrations.
There is a clinical need for more sensitive DOAC testing in emergency scenarios, as traditional laboratory tests cannot reliably detect low concentrations.
Direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) are a class of drugs that are prescribed for preventing and treating thromboembolism. The DOACs have better efficacy and do not require regular monitoring. However, in emergency scenarios where patients suffer from impaired renal function, haemorrhage, and ischemic stroke, it is critical to know that the drug concentration is 30 ng mL -1 before making any life-saving decisions. Traditional laboratory tests are insensitive to low concentrations of DOACs.
