This study explores the fiscal sustainability of public investment in renewable energy across 44 countries from 2000 to 2023, employing the IV 2SLS model. The findings indicate that government investment in renewable energy and the expansion of its production capacity increase government debt, while greater renewable energy consumption reduces it. Therefore, governments in these countries should adopt a cautious and calibrated approach to investing in renewable energy and actively encourage green energy consumption as a clear policy choice.
