The high resolution 1 H and 19 F nuclear magnetic resonance (n.m.r.) spectra of the four bihalide ions have been observed in aprotic solvents. The 1 H shielding is, in every case, 14 p.p.m. less than that in the related molecule. The spin–spin coupling in FHF − is 120.5 ± 0.3 Hz.
