The time of appearance of the autodifferentiation potencies of the endoderm revealed in the present study is as follows: stage 4 for the pharyngeal, oesophageal, and small intestinal epithelia; stage 5 for the gizzard epithelium; stage 6 for the thyroid and proventricular epithelia ; and stage 8, 9, and 10 for the large intestinal, hepatic, and dorsal pancreatic epithelia respectively.
