A simple and accurate method of measuring the intensities of X-ray reflections from powders is described. The method consists in reflecting X rays from a plane, stationary layer of powder. Its special advantages are that the absorption factor can be very accurately obtained, and the variation of focusing across the film can be utilized to give lines of approximately the same blackness for reflections of widely different intensities. Three examples are given illustrating the use of the method for comparing reflections from mixed powders, for comparing widely different intensities, and for measuring intensities at large angles of reflection.
