A modified double dye injection method demonstrated that pulmonary blood volume and vascular resistance remain unchanged during exercise in a small cohort of normal subjects.
Stable pulmonary volumes in normals should not alter exercise guidance in disease; leaves open validation in larger patient cohorts.
Duplicate determinations of pulmonary blood volume (Qp) were made in 16 supine resting normal subjects by use of arterial dye curves after pulmonary arterial and pulmonary wedge injections of indocyanine green. In five subjects Qp and pulmonary vascular resistances were unchanged during exercise.
