Steers varying widely in conformation and breeding were used in this investigation to determine the advisability of finishing various breeds for market. Despite market differentials and theories of desirable beef conformation, the differences among types or breeds, production characteristics, carcass merit, and beef-eating quality have received inadequate study. This is particularly true of studies which included dairy animals or more than two breeds raised in similar environments.
